DJ Name:
DJ Jazzberry
Location:
Oaktown Bootyville, CA
Show time(s):
Wednesdays 9am - 12 noon PST
Show description:
I have two main formats: 1. Classic vocal jazz of the 20's
thru 60's, lounge, and latin, and 2. Theme Shows! Songs about the theme are
weaved together in a somewhat coherent format, with clips from commercials
and movies mixed in. I've tackled controversial themes such as 'Short
People', 'Cars: First Church of the V-8', and 'Slaving for The Man' (my
personal favorite, a rogue broadcast from my repressive office.) Think of
the 80's radio show 'FlashBack' with a Burning Man sensibility.

Bio:
Andrea spent the first 18 years of her life in rural North Carolina. We
had 3 major radio stations, broadcasting from the buckle of the bible belt,
so I basically listened to anything I could get my hands on that wasn't
country. I found my solace in my dad's stack of 50's and 60's Motown
records, and old movies and musicals (thank god for the invention of
VCR's!). I liked to sing, too... first in the church choir and then, when I
realized in a burst of teenage angst that it's soooo not cool to sing with
your mom, eventually a capella in Tar Heel Voices, a ridiculously fun group
at UNC-Chapel Hill.
In search of more musical choices, I hightailed it out of N.C., and moved to
"Saddam and Gomorrah" / San Francisco (Thanks Uncle Tommy, for this
storytelling gem!), where I eventually found my innner club kid dancing the
nite away in clubs and parties across the city. (Pillar of salt, my ass!
Shake yo bootay!) ...And yes, eventually I got nostalgic for home and
started listening to country (though at least I prefer 40's and 50's
country!) And, whenever a fresh bushel of boiled peanuts arrives from home,
I may even play a few songs and throw the peanut shells on the floor.
